  • 4th grade: Marine Food Webs – How we’re all connected

Maria's depth of knowledge in oceanic studies gives her students a dedication to the environment, bar none
– Rose McManama, EARTHs Magnet School

Maria offered my students a hands-on, interactive experience in relationship to the Island of The Blue Dolphins novel, a core book in our 4th grade year. The students were engaged and interested in the ways in which Maria presented Island history, the plight of the Island fox and other Island animals, food webs and the influence that we have in protecting them, and through touching and manipulating real live marine animals. Maria is an obviously a team player and worked well with her staff as well as with my parents and me when we visited. I hope to have another educational experience with Maria soon!
